Medical Devices: Canada Regulations

DESCRIPTION
This course provides a basic understanding of medical device regulations in Canada. It covers a wide range of issues from the regulatory framework provided by Health Canada, through the steps to submit an investigational testing application or a medical device licence application, to postmarketing activities. It will discuss classification of devices, selection of the appropriate license type, submission requirements, quality systems and postmarketing requirements. It is beneficial for RA and QA professionals at learning levels I and II.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, participants will:

  • Discuss the regulatory framework for medical devices in Canada
  • Assess classification of medical devices
  • Identify the regulatory requirements for an Investigational Testing Authorization, a Medical Device License and Medical Device Establishment Licensing
  • Recognize the requirements for Quality Systems for medical devices
  • Explain the Medical Device Inspection Programme
