2008 RAPS Annual Conference & Exhibition

Hynes Convention Center
Boston
14–17 September 2008

At the 2008 RAPS Annual Conference & Exhibition, RAPS is putting leadership in motion by exploring ways regulatory professionals throughout the world can apply the principles of leadership to become a driving force throughout the healthcare product lifecycle and a voice for the profession globally.

In this truly unique conference, and the only one of its kind dedicated to exploring topics of interest to the global regulatory profession, we’ll examine regulatory leadership and ways regulatory professionals can further establish and grow the regulatory profession, advance scientific and technological innovation, enable conflict resolution and much more!

Back for a second year in this historic city, Boston will once again play host to the RAPS Annual Conference & Exhibition, where attendees hear top public and private sector regulatory professionals from around the globe talk about advancements in the profession and new regulations––that address multiple product lines and subjects throughout the product lifecycle––and what they mean to you.

Keynote Speakers

RAPS is excited to present this year’s renowned keynote speakers who will explore the latest issues in healthcare and leadership and their implications for the regulatory profession.

As a practicing surgeon and an accomplished writer, teacher and speaker, Dr. Atul Gawande offers audiences a unique perspective on the most pressing issues in medicine and healthcare today.

Active in the healthcare and medical community, Dr. Gawande leads the 2nd Global Patient Safety Challenge: Safe Surgery Saves Lives, an initiative of the World Health Organization to reduce surgical deaths worldwide, is a staff writer on medicine and science for The New Yorker magazine, and authors a regular column for The New England Journal of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Gawande received the MacArthur Fellowship in 2006, for the “fresh and unique perspective, clarity, and intuition” in his written work and his “energetic and imaginative” approach to finding practical ways to improve surgical practice.

Dr. Gawande’s best-selling book, Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance , uses the high stakes challenges that he faces as a surgeon to explore the universal struggle to perform well. Through gripping personal stories, he gives us an inside look at the life of a practicing surgeon and offers unique insights into what it takes to succeed in any area of human endeavor.
