Regulatory submission is an opportunity for your data to tell a compelling scientific story that supports approval. Development programs for new drugs, biologics, or medical devices are replete with complex information that must be communicated efficiently, clearly, and precisely. Scientific data can be illustrated as text, tables, or figures. However, all too often, these powerful tools are either underutilized or misused, leading to ambiguity or confusion about key aspects of the data. Style and substance do not need to be enemies!

During this interactive session, you will hear recommendations drawn from the latest research in scientific communication for how to improve the design of data visualizations for regulatory submissions. In addition, experts in medical communications and statistics will provide examples illustrating the key principles of effective data presentations.

Upon the presentation’s conclusions, you should be able to:

  • Identify the components of a friendly vs. unfriendly graph
  • Recognize commonly used graphical features in SAS, Excel, and PowerPoint that make graphs harder to understand
  • Use appropriate data labels, colors, shading, and fonts
  • Understand best practices for showing variability and precision
  • Generate graphs and tables that pass “the glance test”
