All 50 states and the District of Columbia impose some form of licensure and registration requirement on companies seeking to manufacture drug products within and/or distribute them into their territory. What may be less well known is that a company's business model (manufacturer, distributor, third-party logistics provider) and the types of products it manufactures or distributes (prescription, controlled, device, OTC) often impact the number and type of licenses it must obtain.
