The Regulatory Professional: A Jack of All Trades

The regulatory profession has witnessed significant changes in recent years. A combination of factors within the healthcare products industry has elevated the role and the impact of regulatory professionals within the traditional pharmaceutical and biotechnology organization. It is not uncommon for senior regulatory leadership to report directly to the CEO. As the regulatory role has expanded, senior management's expectations for individuals in this role have grown to include broader knowledge and deeper global experiences. As a result, seasoned regulatory experts are in demand. However, developing the unique combination of expertise and experience desired by senior management is difficult because the typical regulatory person fills so many different roles, depending upon the status of the company's product pipeline and global strategy.
