Social media are fast becoming one of the most important means of communication. Widely utilized as prospect pools by recruiters, as networking platforms among peers and as sales tools for companies advertising their products, social media outlets have dramatically expanded their commercial applications. Many companies acknowledge social media as cost-effective means to execute core business and regulatory functions. Social media today are used for brand marketing, announcements of new products and innovations, and other areas such as dissemination of clinical trial and postmarket surveillance information.
