When it comes to national budgets, most industrialized countries' budgets find healthcare costs in the top three line items. Healthcare expenditures encompass areas such as professional services, inpatient care in hospitals, outpatient care, preventive services, clinical laboratory tests, screenings, occupational therapy, drug coverage, etc. All areas are affected by the basic tenets of macroeconomics, which dictate that there are costs associated with society's unlimited demand for use of limited resources.
