Regulatory Update

| 01 February 2011

President Obama signed the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) on 4 January 2011. This timely and much-needed legislation provides the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with expanded authority to regulate the food industry. The act gives FDA the tools it needs to help prevent food-borne illnesses and respond to outbreaks to make the public food supply safer. Dietary supplements are also covered under the FSMA, as they are considered food under the Dietary Supplement Health Education Act (DSHEA).
