Director, Education & Professional Development, Rockville, Maryland

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Director, Education and Professional Development assures that RAPS delivers the most targeted, relevant, and rigorous educational offerings across all domains of the healthcare regulatory profession.  Their knowledge of adult learning theory will be applied to help subject matter experts from the community deliver high quality education offerings across modalities.
The overarching role and duties for the Director, Education and Professional Development, are:

  • Manages and contributes to the development and production of professional content to meet RAPS’s needs globally and to capitalize on potential new products and services.
  • Direct the lifecycle of curriculum development in support of the RAPS’s product roadmap including new courses, programs, quality improvements, and identification of new professional development opportunities.
  • Work with internal teams, external vendors, and contractors to maintain and expand RAPS’s Regulatory Competency Framework.
  • Provide direction for all work connected with test preparation for the Regulatory Affairs Certification (RAC) exam
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of evaluation data across RAPS’s educational product lines
  • This position reports to the VP, Education and Professional Development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Guide the development of the annual workshop education calendar by working with the education committee and other stakeholder groups to identify key topics of educational need across product sectors.
  • Work with outside partners at other organizations to develop areas for collaboration on education programs and offerings
  • Manage a team of 5 who facilitate creation of project plans for approved education programs and provide oversight to ensure execution of all programs on time and within budget
  • Provide regular progress reports to Vice President, Education and Professional Development, and other members of Executive Management Team as necessary
  • Work closely with RAPS staff and member volunteers (e.g., subject matter experts, committees) to design, develop, and deliver education
  • Coordinate cross-departmental efforts related to RAC preparation, including (1) maintenance of RAC prep materials, (2) strategic planning of updates to RAC prep-related online materials, and (3) creation and dissemination of RAC prep-related train-the-trainer materials
  • Participate in annual planning and budgeting and routine monitoring of RAPS’ Education’s financial performance
  • Participates on leadership team for RAPS educational events in Europe, coordinating and guiding content identification and development when needed

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree preferred, Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience working in education, training, and/ or professional development planning and execution, preferably at a non-profit, volunteer membership association
  • Knowledge of learning theory and curriculum development; current educational trends, methods, research, and technology
  • Excellent organization skills with emphasis on execution and problem-solving
  • Experience developing training programs for a variety of delivery methods (e.g., live, virtual, self-paced, instructor-led)
  • Experience with volunteer management, budgeting, project management, program planning, and supervision
  • Ability to analyze data and develop recommendations for improvement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
