The Role

Help support the professionals who bring lifesaving medications and medical devices to market! RAPS (the Regulatory Affairs Professionals Society) is seeking a senior editor to shepherd subject matter experts and shape the content they create for books and related products.

In this role, you will:

  • Serve as lead editor on all books published by RAPS.
  • Organize, supervise and participate in the development and management of all content submitted for RAPS books.
  • Evaluate manuscripts; supervise the submission process and tracking system.
  • Substantively edit manuscripts for factual accuracy, form, grammar/punctuation, adherence to proscribed style and general readability.
  • Work with a volunteer Editorial Advisory Committee (EAC) on the development of the annual production calendar.
  • Research and develop new books and resources on topics of interest to the regulatory community, including both RAPS-published and co-published books.
  • Liaison with marketing team to ensure they are adequately backgrounded to develop compelling tactics to foster book sales.
  • Liaison with external organizations for potential co-promotion of books and other publications.
  • Work with graphic designers on book layout and design.
  • Work with editorial freelancers on quality control.
  • Oversee all book contracts and author agreements.
  • Support other editorial and communications activities of the organization, as appropriate.

About you

We are looking for a team member with excellent editorial and author management skills, an inquisitive mindset and the desire for professional growth. You are a multitasker but pay keen attention to detail and like to work on a variety of projects – large and small – at the same time. This position will suit someone who wants to better understand the healthcare system and the products that treat patients and improve health.

Key Requirements are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, or a related field; or commensurate experience.
  • Eight to 10 years of editorial experience, with a preference for book publishing experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Highly skilled in time management, author management and organization.
  • Ability to multitask, meeting or exceeding deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Thorough understanding of the print and electronic publication production processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Working knowledge of several professional editorial style manuals
  • Familiarity with medical/scientific topics a plus
  • Familiarity with InDesign or other layout production software a plus
