Contract Copy/Content Editor

Location: US Remote

This is an evergreen requisition. Applicants will be considered for contractual hire on an as needed basis.

The role

Our team is seeking a skilled copy/content editor to join us as a freelance/independent contractor. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong grasp of grammar and style, and the ability to improve the clarity and coherence of our written materials. You will work closely with content designers and editors to review and refine eLearning courses and/or book chapters.

RAPS Publication and eLearning course development extends throughout the year; however, this sporadic employment encompasses work that occurs at regular intervals or as a single event.

How you will support this project
  • Edit manuscripts for accuracy, grammar, style, and readability.
  • Ensure the tone and voice of the content aligns with RAPS guidelines and target audience.
  • Correspond with subject matter experts to improve content structure and flow.
  • Provide constructive feedback to writers using Word’s Review/Comment
What skills are necessary
  • Proven experience as a copy editor, editor, or similar role.
  • Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and style.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to spot errors quickly.
  • Familiarity with various style guides (e.g., AMA, APA, AP, Chicago Manual of Style).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in using editing tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Grammarly).

Preferred:

  • Experience in the healthcare or regulatory industry.
  • Experience editing technical content such as regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices.
