This session explores how current regulatory leaders can intentionally shift from being technical experts to becoming talent multipliers within their organizations.
As regulatory professionals progress into leadership roles, technical expertise alone is no longer sufficient to drive success. Today's regulatory leaders are increasingly called upon to coach mentor and develop mid-career professionals and new managers, often without formal training in how to do so effectively. This session explores how current regulatory leaders can intentionally shift from being technical experts to becoming talent multipliers within their organizations. Utilizing proven coaching and mentoring frameworks and the unique dynamics of regulatory work, this presentation will provide practical tools for supporting career growth, strengthening leadership pipelines, and fostering inclusive, high-performing regulatory teams. Participants will gain clarity on how to distinguish coaching from mentoring, when each approach is most effective, and how to apply both in real world regulatory scenarios, such as new managers navigating organizational influences, managing ambiguity, and developing strategic thinking. The session will also address common challenges leaders face, including time constraints, hybrid work environments, and cross functional complexities to offer realistic, scalable approaches that can be implemented immediately.

Tara Turney is the Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs at BD. She has over 20 years of experience in Medical Device Regulatory Affairs. She currently leads a global team within the Advanced Repair and Reconstruction division, overseeing absorbable and synthetic surgical meshes and fixation devices.

Rohan Shah is the Associate Director of Regulatory Affairs Advanced Repair and Reconstructions, Surgery at BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), with a broad cross-functional background in Medical Devices spanning over 18 years.
Rohan has deep experience across high‑risk implantable products and innovation programs. He has held regulatory roles of increasing responsibility, bringing a strong understanding of EU MDR, FDA pathways, clinical evidence, and post‑market requirements to enable efficient and compliant global market access.
Rohan’s regulatory career was shaped by formative early years in R&D and product development at Covidien and Teleflex, where he worked across technology development, design controls, and manufacturing transfer. His transition into Regulatory Affairs began at the BSI Notified Body, where he served in technical and scheme leadership roles—experience that continues to inform his patient safety and clinical efficacy approach to regulatory strategy.
Rohan holds a Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering from The City College of New York and a Masters in Science from The University of Connecticut.
