FDA Gets High Marks for FOIA Request Transparency

A report by the House Oversight Committee has found many federal agencies to be deficient when it comes to tracking basic information regarding Freedom of Information Act(FOIA) requests, including the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

The report "found that many federal agencies failed or struggled to transparently demonstrate an ability to track basic information about the processing" of FOIA requests.

While DHHS-the parent organization of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-received an overall 'D' grade ranking, FDA was found to be compliant with all FOIA provisions, earning it an 'A' grade ranking.

Requests to FDA were returned "containing all necessary information," according to the report.

The FOIA requests were ranked based on the name of the requester, a description of the request, the legally required tracking number for the request, the status of the request, and the outcome of the request.
