FDA Looks to Hire Associate Commissioner for Legislation
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is on the hunt for a new associate commissioner for legislation, it announced yesterday.
The position, first posted on the "USA Jobs" website-the government's hiring portal-on 9 December 2013, seeks someone to join FDA's "top management hierarchy."
Whoever is hired would be charged with providing "comprehensive and continuing analysis of legislative needs and proposals affecting FDA, the development of new legislation to enable the Agency to perform its mission more effectively, and various congressional liaison and policy matters."
"The incumbent of this position will advise the commissioner and other key officials concerning legislative needs and pending congressional legislation and oversight activities which affect FDA," the agency added.
The ideal candidate will have extensive management experience, knowledge of the legislative process and developing testimony before congressional committees, strong communication skills, and deep knowledge of all legislation affecting FDA.
At present, the position is occupied on an acting basis by Michele Mital. The position was last held on a permanent basis by Melinda Plaisier, who now heads up FDA's Office of Regulatory Affairs (ORA).
