India’s Drug Regulator Sees Top-Level Shakeup
GN Singh, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) since 2012, has been relieved of his post, according to a circular distributed by India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) announced on Twitter that S. Eswara Reddy will take over as DCGI, though media reports said he will only be in the job for the next three months until a permanent appointment is made.
Meanwhile, CDSCO announced via an order on Tuesday that 42 drug inspectors and technical officers would be transferred, many from CDSCO’s headquarters, to various zones across the subcontinent.
CDSCO said the transfers are being made to strengthen the various zones and sub-zones.
On Monday, CDSCO also held a workshop for device manufacturers to discuss the regulator’s new online portal. And next Monday, the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India is meeting with regulators from the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.
