The Secretary of the US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Kathleen Sebelius, has placed her Chief of Staff, Sally Howard, in FDA's Office of the Commissioner as the new Deputy Commissioner for Policy, Planning and Legislation.
According to the Commissioner's message to FDA staff today, "Sally will play a critical role in overseeing the development and implementation of key policy initiatives, the formulation and tracking of strategic priorities, and the Agency's engagement in Congressional activities."
The Associate Commissioner for Policy and Planning and the Associate Commissioner for Legislation will report to the new Deputy. Prior to serving as Chief of Staff for Sebelius, Howard served as her chief counsel when Sebelius was governor of Kansas.
