The Medical Device Regulatory Affairs (MDRA) Graduate Certificate Program, a joint academic program from RAPS and the School of Biomedical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), graduated its first cohort of 31 students last month. The program was developed in partnership with several of Singapore’s government agencies as part of the country’s efforts to nurture a highly competent regulatory workforce.
Singapore has spent much of the past decade positioning itself to attract regional and global biopharma and medical technology companies to establish presences there. As a result, it has grown to become a major hub for life sciences and medicine. Recognizing the need to support the growing life sciences sector, Singapore’s government has invested in infrastructure and workforce development—including, critically, the regulatory workforce.
Raymond Chua, group director of the Health Products Regulation Group of Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority addressed the class during its recent graduation ceremony. Chua also is co-chair of RAPS’ Pan-Asian advisory committee and a member of the MDRA program advisory committee. “RAPS looks forward to each of you becoming active regulatory professionals and leaders each in your own way committed to regulatory excellence within the regulatory ecosystem in Asia, be it whether you are in the industry or a regulator or in the academic field,” said Chua. He also congratulated graduates on what he called a “stellar achievement.”
Graduates of the first RAPS-NUS MDRA program are:
Lee Jun Jie Stanley, Teoh Yu-Lin Denise and Meah Wee Chong were recognized as the top three students in the class.
The MDRA program’s second cohort recently began its course of study. For more information about the program, visit NUS’s MDRA program page.
