China's SFDA Issues Drug Testing Guidance

China's State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) has issued guidance to provincial and municipal food and drug agencies and the Chinese Institute of Food and Drug Testing concerning the implementation of goals contained within China's national 12th Five Year Plan.

The plan calls for accelerating "rapid drug testing technology research" to detect counterfeit and adulterated drug products.

The guidance explains SFDA will be responsible for organizing a national system to carry out systematic, targeted research and development of drug testing technology such as reagents, rapid test kits, rapid detection test equipment and other needed technology products.

It will then be the responsibility of all local authorities to use the developed drug testing technology on all drugs, whether domestically produced or imported, SFDA says in the guidance. The end goal of the plan will be to strengthen the regulatory capacity of local agencies to conduct rapid inspection of drug products
