EMA's PRAC Elects its Second Chair

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) on Wednesday announced that Sabine Straus of the Netherland's Medicines Evaluation Board (MEB) has been elected to chair the agency's Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) for a three-year term.

Straus will be replacing June Raine, who heads the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency's vigilance and risk management program, as the committee's second chair beginning September 2018.

Raine, who was elected to be PRAC's first chair at the committee's second meeting in September 2012, served the maximum of two three-year terms heading the committee and previously served on the agency's Pharmacovigilance Working Party from 1995-2012. Straus has also served on the PRAC since its inception.

"I hope to provide leadership to the PRAC and I look forward to working collaboratively with all PRAC members, EMA's other committees and its staff in the best interest of European Union citizens," Straus said in a statement.
