FDA Looking for a Leader for its New Device Testing Division

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is on the hunt for a new leader for its device center's newly formed Division of Biology, Chemistry and Materials Science (DBCMS).

The new division, housed within the Center for Devices and Radiological Health's (CDRH) Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories (OSEL), is primarily concerned with how medical devices physically interact with patients. For example, its staff will be assessing devices for biocompatibility, biological risk assessment, toxicology, chemical contamination, electrochemistry, sterility, biofilm formation, materials degradation and more, FDA explained in a hiring notice posted on its website.

The data generated by DBCMS is used in both pre- and post-market settings, FDA noted.

FDA's ideal candidate for the director position will be an M.D. or Ph.D, have experience leading and managing a scientific organization and have a strong grasp of regulatory issues, the agency said.
