ICMRA Seeks to Establish Joint Industry Working Group on Track and Trace
The International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA) on Friday announced it’s looking for industry experts to participate in a one-year project on ensuring track and trace systems for medicines are interoperable.
According to ICMRA, the participants in the working group are expected to work toward developing detailed guidance on common technical features to enable interoperability, build capacity building tools for regions wishing to implement such track and trace systems, and build solutions/tools for new and existing systems to become interoperable.
Other goals for the group include analyzing technical aspects on interactions between alert systems and track and trace systems and identifying ways to overcome barriers to exchanging information between different track and trace systems.
“Track & Trace systems can contribute to the rapid exchange of information. However, so far these systems have been designed and implemented with a local or regional focus, without consideration as to their interoperability with other such systems,” ICMRA said.
Building on work already done by the WHO’s Substandard and Falsified Medical Products initiative, ICMRA said it has collected information on existing and planned track and trace systems for medicines around the world.
Expressions of interest in participating in the working group should be sent by email to [email protected] by 15 January 2019.
