New OTC Drug Marketing Opportunities

Brazil's national agency, Anvisa, will soon open a public consultation on a proposal to allow over-the-counter (OTC) medicines to be placed within reach of consumers at the pharmacy so consumers can evaluate prices and choose alternatives.

According to data developed by a working group on the regulatory framework for OTC drugs, the regulation (RDC 44/09) requiring placing OTC drugs behind the counter at pharmacies has not reduced adverse events, but has led to market concentration.
