The United Kingdom’s regulatory authority, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), has appointed a new vice-chair for its Commission on Human Medicines (CHM).
Dr. Angela Thomas is taking up the vice-chairmanship from Dr. Ian Weller, who retired from MHRA at the end of 2014, the regulator said in a 19 January 2015 press release.
Thomas, a pediatric hematologist, has served as a member of CHM since 2005 and also chairs the commission’s Clinical Trials, Biologicals & and Vaccines Expert Advisory Group.
CHM is responsible for advising MHRA on issues related to the quality, safety and efficacy of drugs submitted to both the UK and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). The commission is also responsible for advising MHRA on issues related to risk management, adverse event reporting and issuing guidance letters on these matters where appropriate.
